The Globally Harmonized System (GHS for short) is a system for the classification and labeling of chemicals, developed by the United Nations. Although this new system is not mandated by the UN, many countries around the world, such as those in the European Union or those that are members of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) have made this system mandatory. So if you are working in the chemicals or allied industries or businesses that deal with these materials (such as logistics companies or distributors) then you must understand this system thoroughly.

This UN designed system keeps getting revised every two years and the latest revision (Edition 8)  happened in July 2019.  This is published by the UN as a book, popularly referred to as the “Purple Book”.

This Abhisam Blended  learning course is perhaps the only course that covers this latest revision. Very soon Abhisam will also publish an e-learning version.

In this course, you will learn

  • Understanding of hazards in every-day life
  • Chemical hazards due to properties of chemicals and their health effects and impact on environment
  • Globally Harmonized System of Hazards Classification & Communication which is in use globally
  • How to read classification criterion and deduction of classification based on available data
  • The meaning of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and how to make use of them
  • The detailing of labels and how to use them
  • Employee training based on the prevalent system of hazard communication
  • Better understanding of hazardous properties of chemicals and sufficient knowledge to handle chemicals in safe manner leading to safe & secure workplace with decreasing number of un-desired events of chemical exposures
  • Basic requirements of hazard communications in terms of SDS and Labels when doing business with a GHS compliant country

After you complete the course, you need to take the associated exam and pass it, to earn your Certificate. This credit forms part of the requirement for earning the Abhisam Certificate of Competency in GHS.
